Miss Littlewood has been a full-time consultant ophthalmologist at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital since 2022, specialising in neuro-ophthalmology and strabismus (squint).
Miss Littlewood graduated from Newcastle University in 2010 and undertook her junior medical posts in the North West of England. This included a year-long post at the Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery to enhance her neuroscience experience. Miss Littlewood commenced ophthalmic specialist training from 2014 in South Yorkshire before she joined the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in 2021 to undertake a subspecialty fellowship post in neuro-ophthalmology and strabismus.
In her NHS role, Miss Littlewood undertakes subspecialty clinics in her areas of expertise such as neuro-ophthalmology, strabismus and Botox injections for improved ocular alignment. She also undertakes general ophthalmology sessions via eye casualty and urgent follow up clinics, to ensure she maintains her skills in acute eye pathology. She also has regular theatre sessions in strabismus (eye muscle surgery) and cataracts.
Miss Littlewood contributes to the training of ophthalmic specialist trainees within neuro-ophthalmology, strabismus and cataract surgery as a clinical and educational supervisor. She is an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
